The theme for the 2017 SCJ Conference is Communicating the Old Testament. Featured speakers include: Ellen Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology (Duke Divinity School) who will present "The Old Testament—Does it Preach?…and How?!" and "Reading the Old Testament as Christians;" Chris Heard, Associate Professor of Religion (Pepperdine University) will present "Drowning in Cuteness: How the Flood Became a Children's Story," and "The Lord Chooses How the Dice Fall: Using Games to Teach Old Testament;" and Jason Bembry, Professor of Old Testament (Emmanuel Christian Seminary) "The Old Testament Prophetic Tradition – Wide A-'woke in America."
These presentations are both thorough and creative. They are sure to spark ideas and conversation.
Related papers or papers on other biblical, theological, or historical topics are sought for parallel sessions from experienced scholars as well as from student scholars. Paper titles (no abstract needed) were originally due to Stewart Penwell, Conference Parallel Paper Coordinator by December15, 2016. However, a few slots remain.
Contact Stewart at firstname.lastname@example.org immediately if you have a paper to present. Remaining slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis up to February 20. After that, papers will be put on a waiting list when papers drop out.
Stewart serves as the contact for presenters now and at the conference.
