This article probes the self-understanding of Emergent/Emerging Movement through an analysis of the groups overall use of Christian history. What stories are important to them, and how do they use these stories to explain their own origin and mission? The article also offers definitions for the term emergent and draws key comparisons between the Emergents and the early history of the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement.
